Our story

Wild Coast Roast began with a move.

Our small family unit moved to East London from KwaZulu-Natal for a corporate career change, taking a chance on a place most in South Africa have not visited. Over time, this part of the Eastern Cape became home.

The founder’s story

“It is a place where relationships matter, where communities connect and where there is always another story around the corner.”

Living here changed the way we saw the coast — and eventually the way we thought about what we wanted to build.

The Wild Coast has a particular character. It feels wild, open and almost untouched in places. But for us, it also has a remarkable sense of peace.

It is a place where relationships matter, where communities connect and where there is always another story around the corner.

We wanted to create a coffee brand that captured some of that feeling.

Coffee was a natural place to start. It is a product built around relationships, craft, technical detail and ritual — all things that matter to us.

Wild Coast Roast is the beginning of that journey. A speciality coffee brand born in East London, inspired by the place we call home and built around the people we meet along the way.

Good coffee. Good people. A place worth sharing.

The Wild Coast Roast journey

From a place to a purpose.

  1. A place inspired the brand.

  2. That place became home.

  3. Coffee became the product through which the story could be shared.

  4. Speciality coffee gives us the technical craft and quality.

  5. Relationships give the brand its character.

  6. Customers become part of the journey.

  7. Brewing Change gives that journey a broader purpose.

Brewing Change

Good coffee should brew positive change for communities.

Brewing Change is Wild Coast Roast’s commitment to building something beyond the coffee itself.

Our first focus is the development of a coffee ecosystem in East London — creating opportunities for young people to gain practical barista training, experience and exposure to the coffee trade.

Over time, we want Brewing Change to grow into something broader: supporting the businesses and people who contribute to the Eastern Cape’s tourism and hospitality economy.

Brewing Change is still taking shape. We’ll share more as it develops.
